I live in a studio apartment with no flat surfaces that can go unused while I’m working on a puzzle. I also have pets that like to help. I used to break down cardboard boxes to make a puzzle board I could cover & store under the sofa or bed. It worked, but only if you kept it horizontal because the surface was so slick. This is so much better because you can tilt the board due to the fabric work surface. I was worried the lining would be too sticky to move pieces around but that hasn’t been an issue. The flap velcro is massively strong – it takes 2 hands & a good pull to separate it. I use the board on my 30 inch bistro dining table & then seal it up & store it away. Pieces do slide a bit if you carry it vertically but they survive a 45-68 degree tilt down the hall. I’m careful to seal it up tightly. I use piece trays so don’t have a lot of single pieces on the board but the ones I do have rarely move even with the slight flex the board has. FWIW, if you feel okay about having some overhang & aren’t worried about air circulation, this board fits on top of the frig too.

I liked the concept of keeping all puzzle pieces together. I do wish it had a handle for carrying.

I absolutely love my Portapuzzle!! There’s only one reason I didn’t give it 5 stars and that’s because it doesn’t have a handle. Surely they could figure out a way to put a handle on it. It would make it much easier to carry around. Still, that’s minor compared to everything I love about it. It’s very well made. The material seems high quality and thick, I don’t think I’ll ever wear it out. I was worried about the Velcro when I ordered it because Velcro can wear out pretty quick but I don’t think this will be wearing out any time soon. It grabs and holds so that it sometimes takes a couple tugs to loosen it and it’s a thick strip, again high quality. The material on the inside is equally well made and feels soft to the touch, I like the way it feels. I was worried it might be a cheap felt and I hate the feel of felt, but no worries there. This is almost like a suede or something. The color is perfect too, it makes the puzzle pieces easy to see. Some people mentioned a wrinkle in the material down the middle so I’ll address that as well. It’s not really a wrinkle, it’s an indention from where the two separate boards meet and it’s been stored like that with no puzzle in it. To prevent that, maybe they should store it with a thin piece of cardboard or something between the work area and the two separate boards that lay on top. But the puzzle does lay flat across it, it doesn’t make any of the pieces protrude or anything. And the one thing that really had me and others worried when ordering it, it does keep the puzzle safe and secure inside while carrying it. I’ve heard conflicting reviews on this but I’ve had absolutely no trouble. I carried it around (vertically) when I had only the outline done and all throughout the process of putting the puzzle together, it didn’t slip an inch! In fact, put the puzzle where you want it when you first begin because you’re not going to be able to slide it around at all (I tried once, it won’t budge). Now, I will say that when I first started putting the puzzle together and so had a lot of loose pieces on the two separate boards that come with it, they did slip a little bit when I carried it vertically, maybe an inch. They kind of bunched up a bit (not one on top of the other or anything but they did slide down). That wasn’t as much of an issue as I had less pieces on those two boards. BUT, the puzzle itself didn’t move a centimeter when carried around. Now, when I pick up the Portapuzzle, I don’t just grab it and let it fall into a vertical position. I grab it at the top and bottom and gently lower it into a vertical position and then carry it by the top. I don’t swing it around and bump it against things. Also, I suggest you don’t grab it by the sides and carry it. I’ve found that causes it to bow a little bit and the loose puzzle pieces slide more when you do it that way. Grab it by the top and bottom. I use it on a 37″ square table and the part of the Portapuzzle that you work on comes right to the sides of the table so that when I open it, I allow the two wings to hang down. That was something else I was worried about. I knew I didn’t have a big enough table to put it on and use it with the wings out flat and I was worried I might eventually crack it or wear it out if I constantly allowed those wings to hang down but, again, my fears were needless. It’s material there (thick material like a canvas) and you can position the wings up, to the sides, flat, or down without worrying about wearing them out. The working part and the wings are nice and stiff but they do have a little give to them so you’d probably have trouble just sitting this on your lap, it would bow a little. It would be too big anyway. You need to work on something flat. All in all, I’m pleasantly surprised by the Portapuzzle and won’t hesitate to order one for a friend. I’m thrilled I didn’t spend $129 on a Jigsort which I was seriously considering. No, the Portapuzzle is half the price and is high quality and does an excellent job holding the puzzle secure. Don’t hesitate to order this!!

I was blown away when I opened the package. The construction quality was amazing. This will last forever. Love that it isn’t so heavy that it won’t be a problem folding up when we have guests (grand kids).

I got this as a gift for my mother who loves doing puzzles. It has worked out great as it allows her to use her dining room table to do puzzles and then to remove them when she needs the table for other uses.

I needed to be able to easily store and move my puzzle. This works well. You can not store your puzzle upright. You have to keep it flat. Also some Pieces can fall out the corners where there isn’t any velcro. Not as good as they lead you to believe but still works well and is light weight enough to move easily.

This puzzle mat overall worked well to keep our kitty from destroying puzzles in progress or stealing pieces. The only downside, like others have said, is that it can’t be stored vertically without the pieces sliding around. I keep it stored flat under the couch and it works fine!

I take a puzzle into assisted living to visit a relative with dementia-it can’t be left there or out. I set this on it’s edge behind the driver’s seat of my car-the pieces may shift a little but don’t fall out. I may make a simple bag for it since there are no handles or way to carry the box. It holds a 1000 piece puzzle and folds open lengthwise across the entire twin bed to work on, or a long table. It is very nice to hold the removable panels when looking for pieces, and the shifting is minor, if at all. It is very nice as I can work on the more difficult areas at home and save the easier areas for our visit. It is well made, a little pricey for what it is, but serves it’s purpose very well.
