Vogue: Lady on a Zebra

Description

A.E. Marty crafted one of Vogue’s most fantastical covers with a sure hand and clean lines. At first glance the reader might not even notice that this modestly dressed, veiled, behatted, and bepearled adventuress sits astride a rearing zebra, rather than a steed, as three giraffes wander in the distance. Here was an imaginative “fashion travelogue” that spoke to the issue’s theme, Southern Fashions—“the great migration to sunny climes”—and “those small accents of so vast importance to chic—the wearing of the scarf, the tilting of the hat, and similar weighty details” that add to the element of fantasy in fashion. This cover inspired the editors of the New York Herald Tribune to pen an essay on the combination of “convention and novelty” and the “juxtaposition of old matter and fresh forms.” Vogue both contributed to and reported on (sometimes with a wink) the great changes happening in the 1920s. In response to the paper’s editorial, the magazine stressed “Vogue’s desire to promote all that is new in art . . . regardless of whether it belongs to the literal school of art or to the imaginative school—a school that can not be explained accurately through the medium of words.” Vogue Cover by Artist André Édouard Marty, originally published on January 1932 500 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Finished Puzzle Size: 18″x24″ Linen Style Finish to reduce glare Made in USA Recommended Age: 10+ Years

Fun enough to do again! Such a clever picture, with good pieces that snap into place, we really enjoyed this nostalgic magazine cover picture.

Easy puzzle, very pretty image. No poster, but the photo on the box cover is enough. The only down side is that the pieces fit together a little loosely, so it’s possible to force a fit between pieces that shouldn’t be together. But I enjoyed working this puzzle a & I would buy again. Very pretty. Recommended.

Contrary to earlier negative reviews, I loved this picture and puzzle so much that I had it framed, as you can see. I found it to be a little too easy, probably because it was only 500 pieces, but at least it was fun! It looks amazing on my office wall. Can’t go wrong with a puzzle from The New York Puzzle Company (except for the one time I labored over a 1000 piece beauty only to find it came with 999 pieces)! I have no regrets.

The quality on the puzzle is very good, but not quite as good as some. Still, the fit is good and the pieces are sturdy. The best thing is the artwork. it is gorgous

I loved doing this puzzle and the zebra and colors really pop. I bought it to frame and mount on my wall. The issue is the border of the puzxle -at least on mine- doesn’t line up straight with the edge of the puzzle, which makes it look obviously escew in the frame. I’m going to get a much larger frame and border so I can rotate the puzzle underneath and make it look straight. Otherwise, it’s a really cute puzzle to do.

TERRIBLE puzzle!! Picture blurry and poor quality! I returned it

This is a medium difficulty puzzle – not too hard, but not too easy. The pieces are all of different shapes, so the overall pattern is nice. This was an enjoyable puzzle to assemble, and it looks very good completed.

Missing piece!Beautiful picture, colour is true to picture but puzzle is poorly made. Lots of puzzle cut dust and pieces fit loosely. I will not purchase again.
